Fake solution for a real problem: The plastic toothpaste tube is actually a packaging solution from the fossil era, which NOW causes problems that NO ONE was aware of back then.

And... the recyclable plastic tube is no different! It sounds good, but it's actually a 'virus in disguise.' It still causes a global 'plastic pandemic.'

We explain it

Every year, a total of 20 billion toothpaste tubes are produced. If you line them up, you could reach the moon, eight times!

  • The production of these tubes primarily generates a huge amount of CO2 emissions.

  • They cannot be recycled due to the multiple layers of different plastic laminates that make up the plastic, often wrapped around a thin aluminum layer.

  • So, they are burned (resulting in more CO2 emissions), landfilled, or dumped into our oceans, where they exist for hundreds of years and slowly break down into microplastics.

In short, every plastic tube you’ve ever used that hasn’t been burned still exists! This is a 'plastic pandemic'.

The big companies still producing these tubes have a problem: the public is increasingly rejecting these outdated, harmful packaging solutions!

Their solution: the 'recyclable plastic tube.' But... this is not a solution at all!

  • Recyclable plastic toothpaste tubes still cause CO2 emissions because they first need to be produced.
  • Recycling is too expensive – new plastic is often cheaper. This is especially true during periods when the oil price is high. Wait, what is the oil price now? Exactly...

  • Recyclable plastic cannot be recycled as many times as glass or aluminum. After a few rounds of recycling, you still need new plastic.

  • Recyclable tubes need to be disassembled before they can be processed. The cap must be separated, and toothpaste residues need to be washed off. Do you think a consumer or recycling company will do this? Think again...

  • And because no recycling takes place, it still gets burned, dumped in landfills, and ends up in our oceans.

So recyclable plastic toothpaste tubes are not a real solution.

It's essentially greenwashing by large companies, masking the fact that the problem still exists.

Either their mindset—shaped by decades of fossil solutions—is unable to find another answer, or they are aware that their solution doesn’t really work. And they simply don’t care...

Smyle cares. That’s why we examine the entire chain and have developed a solution that is plastic-free, refillable, and infinitely recyclable with ease.
