What did we leave out?

  • Microplastics

    Unfortunately, the majority of most popular toothpastes still contain microplastics. They make the toothpaste shine and are a cheap (but unhealthy) way to scrub your teeth. Luckily, ours doesn't!

  • Plastic tubes

    Every year, 20 billion single-use plastic toothpaste tubes are produced. Due to their composition and the paste residues, it is too expensive to recycle them. Half are burned, 1.5 billion end up in landfills or the ocean, and we don't know what happens to the rest.

  • Harmful chemicals

    The foam in 'regular' toothpastes comes from the same sulphates used in industrial cleaners, detergents, soaps and other harmful products. Parabens are used as a preservative. These ingredients have been linked to cancer, mouth ulcers, reproductive problems, stomach complaints and skin irritation. Why take that risk when there are natural alternatives?

  • Cruel testing on animals

    Animal testing for cosmetics (toothpaste falls under cosmetics) is prohibited in the EU, but still not outside of it! In China it is even mandatory to test products on animals before they appear on the market. A company that adheres to the rules here may therefore still be able to test on animals elsewhere.

    Our tablets are tested by the Academic Center for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA). They have determined that the amount of fluoride released is equal to or more than the amount in 'normal' toothpaste.


    We use the optimal 1450 parts per million of fluoride. The effect of fluoride is enhanced by innovative hydroxyapatite.

  • Optimal RDA value

    Abrasives are used in toothpastes to remove plaque and stains. Smyle has an RDA (relative dentin abrasivity) of 115.

    All values ​​below 250 are considered safe for lifelong use, according to the internationally accepted standard of the American Dental Association (ADA).

    An RDA value of 115 is very safe and offers the friction of a medium toothpaste / whitening toothpaste.
