SMYLE WINS GREEN QUEST AWARD 2021
It has just been announced that Smyle has won the Green Quest Award 2021. The Amsterdam-based company offers plastic-free tooth brushing through tabs. The award is an initiative of BNR Nieuwsradio and ENGIE. "We are very happy with this recognition for our product and our approach. We talk a lot about CO₂ emissions, but in the meantime, the world is drowning in plastic," says Almar Fernhout, one of the founders of Smyle.
Reduction of CO₂ emissions and resource use In recent months, 31 companies in the Netherlands have been selected that contribute to the reduction of CO₂ emissions and the reduction of resource use. Smyle stood out due to their sustainable product, approach, and growth through sales in more than 50 countries. The company is committed to plastic-free tooth brushing by offering toothpaste in tabs instead of tubes and by making the toothpaste free of microplastics.
Tabs as an alternative to toothpaste Globally, 20 billion plastic toothpaste tubes are produced annually. The majority of these are burned, causing CO₂ emissions. "Smyle has developed a fantastic alternative to a product we all use daily: toothpaste. Instead of the traditional plastic tube and toothpaste that contains chemicals and sometimes microplastics, Smyle has come up with a super clever sustainable solution. Moreover, the company has already sold the product to 40,000 customers," said jury chairwoman Jacqueline Cramer.
